Dear Tillie,

I was very much surprised and grieved to hear of the death of your dear father. I can imagine the blank you will be conscious of, even though you have been away from home for so long. It is painful to think of the earthly tie broken and that you cannot look froward to hearing from him again, or seeing him face to face in the flesh. However, such is human experience in this world, made up of shadow and of light by turns, and such are the ways of God who is in all his dealings with his children  ?????

At such times it is a blessed thing to have the faith of the Christian, that faith which goes beyond death and pain and lays hold of the glorious immortal life of the redeemer in heaven. I trust that through this experience Christ will become more real to you, and that you will be more than ever impressed with the truth that it is not in earthly life but our spiritual life in Christ that is of supreme importance. God is the God of all consolation and is able to comfort all who are in any trouble. He cares for us, and he says to us “Fear not, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.”

I shall be glad if you will convey to your dear ones at home an expression of my sympathy with them in their hour of trial.

Wishing you God’s choicest blessing

I remain yours in sympathy

H.K. Mack
